How you can help

Helping Young People

The Dove Service can provide counselling and support to all young people. This may be provided at our Head Office in Hanley or at one of our outreaches in Stoke-on-Trent.

Moving into adulthood in itself can be very stressful and confusing and additional emotions brought on by a death or significant loss at this time can make everything feel overwhelming.

Our counsellors work openly with young people, without judging, to help them express how they are feeling about what is happening in their world.

Counselling sessions are completely confidential. The young person can choose to include appropriate adults in their sessions if needed and our counsellors can facilitate the young person in sharing their feelings with others in a safe and confidential environment.

Young people who refer to us are given the opportunity to decide where they would like counselling to take place and generally anyone over the age of 14 can self-refer.

The Newcastle schools project

A project funded by the Dove service to provide counselling in schools to young people within Newcastle. This project allows children and young people to access services in a familiar and safe environment, without the need to be transported and dependent on others. The Newcastle schools project continues the successful work of the Dove Service in the local Newcastle Community.

Dove Uth Wing Project: funded by The Big Lottery Fund

This project enables TDS to provide counselling, training and general awareness raising within Stoke-on-Trent for children and young people aged 10 to 18 years old around the issues of bereavement, loss and significant illness. We also provide peer mentoring training to enable students to provide first level support to their peers for bereavement, life-changing illness and significant loss. Our three Counsellor/Trainers work within schools and other communities and with young people and professionals who work with children & young people. The project is guided by the Dove Service youth advisory board 'Uth Speaks' who help to form and shape our service provision with young people.

The Stoke-on-Trent LD Wing and North Staffordshire LD Wing: funded by The Big Lottery Fund
